3. The Sleep Watcher
Published: Sun Apr 12 2026
A short children's poem with a warning.
The Sleep Watcher watches the weary eyed sleep.
He’ll watch by the window, as you fall to the deep.
He will come to your window, and he will peek right inside.
He may bring a ladder if your bedroom’s too high.
Your ears will never hear him; your nose will never smell him.
You will know that he’s there; but you can never tell him.
His head - it is bloated, just like a balloon.
And his eyes - they are glowing, like the shine of the moon.
His skin, it is pale and filled with crater-like warts,
And on his back he will carry a rucksack of sorts.
His hands, they are wrinkly and covered with gloves
And he wears a white hat, which he dearly so loves.
Yes, he’ll watch as you’re sleeping, but don’t be alarmed,
From outside the window, he can’t cause any harm.
You can pull shut your curtains, so he won’t see a thing.
Just whatever you do, child,
do not let him in.
